Denise Johansson, co-CEO at Enfuce, payment processor company delivering debit, prepaid, and credit card solutions across Europe and scaling globally, recently talked with Samee Zafar (Director, London). During their conversation, Denise shared her views on “non-card” alternatives and Enfuce’s approach to the industry.
1. Do you think consumers will continue to use cards for their digital purchases, or will we see strong competition from “non-card” alternatives, including open banking?
I don’t think consumers think as much of the “form” of payments as we from the industry think they do. Will plastic cards slowly disappear? Yes. Will Visa/Mastercard as payment rails also disappear? No.
Consumers want safe and secure, easy-to-use payments. So far, we have not seen OB being user-friendly and trustworthy enough for consumers to adapt. But tokenization services such as Apple/Google pay got huge traction from the start because in behind we have familiar payment rails/logos that feel safe for consumers. And skipping the plastic card and just keeping my phone/watch with me is convincing enough to adapt.
2. What new approaches is Enfuce bringing to the industry?
We enable our customers to embed user-friendly, safe & secure payment methods to companies who want to own more of the total Customer journey. We help them embed payments to seamless user journeys, and consumers of the services love it. By enabling a true one-stop shop for players without industry expertise, we ensure we see more innovative services being launched.
3. What are your hobbies, what do you do to relax and unwind?
I’m an active person who likes to do Crossfit, long-distance biking, golf, hiking or then just relaxing on the sofa with a good book.
4. What book are you reading? OR What is your favourite book?
I tend to read thriller books. Just scary enough so you can’t put it aside. I don’t have all-time favourite books, I forget them after consuming more books. But a book that I still can think of from time to time is Björn Nattiko “I might be wrong”, or Michelle Obama ”Becoming”.
