How to mitigate the environmental cost of payment cards?
In 2022, 26 billion plastic cards were in circulation, totalling 130,000 tons of plastic, 10 times the weight of the Eiffel Tower. Justine Morvan (Business Analyst, London) has looked at the various initiatives the payments industry can take to reduce the environmental impact. This article also describes the EDC Environmental Card Framework, a set of guidelines designed to limit the environmental impact of payment cards.
