Mark Beresford gave the plenary presentation at the 2nd EMEA AI Airline Information Co-Brand Partnerships conference in London on Wednesday 22nd February 2017.  The key topic focused on the recent European interchange regulations and the impact on the commercial model of airline and hotel co-brand card programs.  Mark’s conference presentation is available to download here.  Around 50 representatives from the airline, hotel sectors and travel related suppliers attended this second annual event.  The debate during the day was mainly related to the challenges and the opportunities that the EU interchange regulations have created across the entire co-brand issuing business.  Numerous implications for air miles, awards, loyalty, consumer behaviour, partnerships, and the payment acceptance strategy were also discussed.

Other speakers covered topics such as customer segmentation, mobile wallets, contactless payments, corporate and SME co-brand opportunities.

The event concluded that regulatory change in the industry is inevitable which requires the airlines, hotel operators and co-brand card issuers to build more effective and transparent partnerships designed to create new customer products and services with the goal of growing portfolios, retaining cardholders and enhancing brand loyalty.
