Volker is a Principal in EDC’s London office and heads the European Acquiring Practice. Having joined EDC in 1999, he has developed significant experience in financial services from working with banks, merchants, card payment schemes, technology vendors and regulatory bodies in a variety of different countries including markets in Europe, the US, the Middle East and South Africa. He has a track record in strategy development and deep expertise in profitability improvement, strategic planning and financial modelling. Volker has project-led cost analyses of issuing and acquiring businesses for more than 30 European and South African banks and therefore gained considerable insights in the economics of a card business. His experience covers credit, debit, prepaid cards as well as e-money products. Over the last 2-3 years Volker has done a significant amount of work on payment acceptance where he has not only worked on understanding the true cost of payments including new technologies like contactless, but also experienced first-hand the blurring lines between physical POS, e-commerce and m-commerce payments. In this area he has worked with many players outside the traditional banking and payments industry and supported license applications and business case development. He has also provided due diligence support on a number of different transactions in the payment industry over the last few years. Volker holds an MBA from Glasgow Caledonian University and an MSC in Industrial Engineering from Technical University Karlsruhe in Germany.
